4 Ways to Stay Motivated in a Tough Job Market

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:39 pm

Unemployment is rising well above 9% in the United States and it could go well beyond 10% as well. With the future looking bleak, gasoline prices rising, and unemployment on the rise as well, is there any hope for future jobs? On the contrary, if you’re in a tough situation where you may be unemployed for a time, it is crucial to stay motivated so that you’ll have every opportunity and are able to grab that next job offer when time permits. If you are having trouble staying focused or motivated in this tough job market and economy, though, there are four definite ways to keep the hope so that your future looks bright.

#1 - Network with Others

The first thing that you need to do is start networking. There are plenty of job forums on the internet, such as the Monster Message Boards, where job seekers are able to connect with one another. This communication and networking with your peers is all too important in this tough job market and unsure economy.

Ask others that you meet the kinds of steps they are taking to position themselves for success. Asking for suggestions on how to get that next interview and simply expressing your feelings and venting your anger about the state of the economy is important. In addition, the camaraderie that comes from networking with your peers should also encourage you.

#2 - Think Positively

Even though the future may seem bleak, there are plenty of reasons to think positively in this tough economy. One of the best attitudes you can take with you is a positive one. Taking a positive approach and thinking to yourself that your next application may result in a hire or the next interview you go on may just be the job you were looking for is crucial to staying focused. If you need help, get some motivational materials from Successories.com. Jokes about how bad you feel from stores like Despair.com may be funny, but they will not help your mood or your chances for success.

#3 - Get Your Resume Out There

Another step that you can do to keep yourself motivated and stay focused on achieving employment in this tough economy is to constantly have your resume in front of the right people. Go to your local job centers and search for job openings. Search Craigslist and other employment websites like Workopolis.com, Job.com, and Snagajob.com for employers posting job opportunities. If you are a member of the military or a veteran, then you can also search for jobs designated for you at Military.com. Keep buying local newspapers for the classified job ads. If you apply to every single job opening that you see which you are qualified for then you may start seeing some results as they come. If nothing else, turn yourself into a webwatcher so that you can be on the look out for new opportunities as they become available.

#4 - Realize that It Won’t Last

Finally, realize that the economic downturn and the sudden loss of jobs won’t last. Even though it’s hard to stay focused in a time where thousands of jobs are lost per month, the fact of the matter is that every bad month that goes by is one month closer to a turnaround for the economy and job market. All countries have periods of job loss and unemployment, but it always bounces back as time permits.

All in all, these are some of the most important approaches and mindsets you can have in a tough job market where unemployment is rising. Realizing that the situation won’t last, getting your resume out on the front lines, thinking positively about your situation, and connecting with others should help you stay motivated, focused, and in perspective!
