8 Signs Your Husband Is Addicted To Sports
The terms “sports widow” didn’t arise out of vacuum. It’s a real thing! Many wives dread when football season arrives, or basketball, or hockey, or whatever sport their husband’s athletic addiction finds itself adhering to. There just seems to be something about the testosterone surge that switches on during an intense athletic event that captures the male hook, line and sinker.
Here are some of the ways you can tell if your husband is addicted to sports:
One: He starts talking about the upcoming game days before it arrives. He starts planning the event like it were a sacred holiday. He thinks about what he’s going to have to eat and to drink, both before, during and after the game.
Two: He plans out in advance exactly what he’s going to wear the day of the sporting event. He asks you five times if his lucky shirt has been washed and throws a fit if not and instead is lying in the dirty clothes basket. He can’t possible wear a dirty team shirt on game day.
Three: He’s so attached to his team that he not only knows all their names, what the cars they drive, where they’re from, where they went to school if they’re on a professional team, and their pet dog’s name. He may also begin to decorate your home with fan paraphernalia from FatHead.com.
Four: One hour and fifteen minutes before the game, he opens his first beer and starts to pace. You even might see a bead of sweat appear on his forehead. An edge creeps into his voice and you know it’s not a good time to ask him if he put gas in the car on the way home from the convenience that morning, or tell him that you’re going out shopping with the girls. You know he won’t hear you anyway.
Five: On game day your husband is totally unaware that the dog threw up and that your son fell off the trampoline and hit his head. You know you can’t ask him to keep an eye on your daughter while you go shopping because you may come home to find that she has skinned her knee after falling off a trikke that you asked her not to ride without adult supervision. You know you’re the one in charge of kids, pets and all other living things, probably until the day after game day.
Six: One hour and three minutes before game time, he arranges his snacks on the coffee table beside the remote. He has on his lucky shirt and his team hat. He turns on the TV and settles in, albeit nervously, to watch the pre-game show.
Seven: For the next three to five hours, he yells and screams, curses the referees, the commercials, the cheerleaders, throws pillows across the room, drinks beer, eats every snack in the house, calls his buddies at half time if they’re not there, and completely loses touch with reality.
Eight: One week later he’s still talking about the game as if it was yesterday. That’s how you know your husband is addicted to sports.
Of course it may aslo be a tell tale sign if he spends all day online ordering athletic gear. For example if he is really into golf, he may spend lots of time online at Golf Galaxy, Medicus Golf, or GolfSmith.com. If he’s into bike racing he may spend alot of time on the Nashbar website.
Oh how happy you’ll be when basketball, football, and baseball seasons are all over. But wait! You forgot, when your husband isn’t watching sports he’s fishing and shopping at Bass Pro Shops! Isn’t that just the life of a mother. You’d better look back on your Jostens Class Rings and Yearbooks and remember the good old days!
